I have noticed a few people using glass orbs or ‘crystal balls’ in their photos recently. The effect that this provides is to flip the image seen through the orb upside down. For this reason most of the photos taken are flipped so that the area of the photo not in focus is inverted and the part of the photo that is in focus is the right way up. It’s also a great way to capture wide angle, fisheye like shots, without a fisheye lens! You can order a crystal ball from as little as £15. For a project or just to get a different perspective, it’s a nice technique to try. Preview image by Jennuine Captures.
